Leadership

Leadership has been described as the "process of social influence in which one can enlist the aid and support of others in the accomplishment of a common task."

Leaders are made, not born. If you have the desire and willpower, you can become an effective leader for your horse. When you develop your leadership skills through a process of self study, education and training, you can inspire your horse to higher levels of performance.  Working with a professional trainer can accelerate the process and help you to avoid common mistakes and pitfalls that are frustrating for both you and your horse.

• Leader - You must have an honest understanding of what you know and what you can do.  We can assist with this assessment and suggest specific skill-building activities.

• Follower - You must know your horse. The fundamental starting point is having a good understanding of the horse's nature. A horse that lacks drive and motivation requires a different approach than one with a high degree of drive and motivation.  It is the follower, not the leader, who determines if the leader is successful.

• Two-way Communication - You lead through communication. What and how you communicate either builds or detracts from the relationship between you and your horse.

Training

Training is the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and competencies. By learning to maintain, upgrade and update your horse's skills throughout his/her working life, you can train your horse beyond just the basics.  Training differs from exercise in that people may dabble in exercise as an occasional activity for fun. Training has specific goals of improving one's capability, capacity, and performance.  We will tailor our instruction to your specific needs and the goals you set for improving your horse and your own horsemanship.

Refinement

Refinement is an improved, higher, or extreme form of something that is elaborated or polished to excess.

Learn to get instant, accurate and sharp responses from your horse every time you ride.

A fulfilling partnership with your horse is developed through Leadership, Training and Refinement.  Your horse must see you as the leader, and as the leader, you must pursue training for yourself as well as your horse.  Don't allow your horse to be mediocre.  Let us teach you how to go beyond the basics.  Get your horse to where it is the best horse you have ever ridden and then make him better.
